"Mr. Rodgers" Pileated Woodpecker 02/07/25
Mr. Rodgers (a nickname for our pileated woodpecker) stops by the feeders about 9AM each morning as he makes his rounds on the lakeshore.
The pileated woodpecker is a striking bird, easily recognizable by its large size, striking black and white plumage, and vibrant red crest on its head.
With a wingspan of up to 30 inches, it is one of the largest woodpecker species in North America. These woodpeckers are known for their distinctive drumming sound, which they use to communicate and establish territory.
